Child Sexual Abuse And Exploitation Prevention Interventions By Law Enforcement CASE STUDY FROM INDONESIA

14 November 2024

Sexual abuse and exploitation of children are global issues affecting children of all genders, addressed in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly SDG 16.2, which aims to prevent abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and violence. Recent international standards emphasize the police and justice sector’s role in preventing these crimes, guided by the ‘UN Model Strategies on Ending Violence Against Children,’ which promote comprehensive crime prevention by addressing multiple crime causes. Despite progress, gaps in international police cooperation for effectively preventing child sexual abuse remain. ECPAT International, as part of the Down to Zero Alliance, conducted a consultation project to bolster global advocacy for police cooperation in preventing child abuse, including a literature review and case studies in Indonesia and the Philippines to map existing practices, identify challenges, and recommend strategies to strengthen prevention efforts.
